Get Started with bwat in 6 Easy Steps

Ready to let bwat help you code faster? Here’s the fastest way to get started — no configuration headaches, no jargon. Just six steps and you’ll be handing off work to your AI agent.

1. Create your bwat account

Go to https://bwat.getcasaapp.com/chat and sign up. It takes less than a minute. Once you’re in, you’ll see the web interface — but the real magic happens inside your editor.

2. Install the bwat VS Code extension

Open VS Code and go to the Extensions tab (or press Ctrl+Shift+X). Search for Bwat — or use this direct link to install it. Click Install and you’re all set.

3. Run /init in your project

Open any project folder in VS Code, open the command palette (Ctrl+Shift+P), and type /init. This tells bwat to scan your codebase and get familiar with where everything lives — your main files, folder structure, and dependencies. Once it’s done, bwat is ready to work with you.

4. Choose your working mode

bwat has four modes that let you decide how much control it has. You can switch at any time.

  • Manual mode – bwat asks for permission before doing anything. You see every proposed change and approve it first.
  • Plan mode – bwat creates a plan, shows it to you, and only starts working after you say “go.”
  • Edit automatically – bwat edits files without asking, but will still ask before running any terminal commands (depending on your permission settings).
  • Auto mode – full autonomy. bwat takes control of the folder it’s working in and doesn’t bother you until the task is complete. For safety, it only has access to that one folder.
Tip

Start with Plan mode if you’re new — you can always switch to Auto later when you trust the agent’s judgment.

5. Use slash commands for quick actions

Slash commands save you time. A few you’ll use daily:

  • /clear – start a fresh conversation with bwat
  • /explain – highlight a piece of code and bwat will walk you through what it does
  • /feedback – send us your thoughts (and help shape future updates)

Just type a slash in the chat box and bwat will show you all available commands.

6. Have fun (and try the mobile app)

You’re all set. Start asking bwat to build features, debug issues, or refactor code. Once you see how fast things go, you’ll wonder how you worked without it.

And yes — bwat has a mobile app too, available now for Android (iOS is coming soon). Use it to check on tasks or kick off new ones while away from your desk. To give us feedback, just type /feedback inside VS Code.

That’s it — six steps, no fluff. Go make something awesome with bwat.
